Hi!
I am a new member here. I actually grew up in Philadelphia, in the city. I never thought I'd live anywhere other than the city or suburbs. Well, I got married and moved to a small city in Ohio. After several years (and a few kids) I got into vegetable gardening, read about backyard chickens and "urban homesteading" and started dreaming more land. About a year and a half ago, we moved outside the city to a house on 5 acres of land, surrounded by 100 acres of woods. This house is my dream house! We have tons of nature in our backyard - deer, turkeys, birds, and even an occasional coyote. We also have a large garden, which we fenced last spring, and a nice-sized permanent chicken coop.
The previous owner used the coop for meat chickens, only in spring and summer, so I will need to adapt it for a laying flock. We are finally ready to jump in and buy our first hens. I have tons of questions about fixing up the coop and taking care of a small flock, so I have been reading and searching through the forums, and I am sure I will ask a few things myself as well.
Thanks!
