I have 10 chickens, a couple of silver laced Wyandotte’s, Bard Rocks, Easter Eggers, and Buff Orphingtons. I had chickens years ago when a chicken was just a chicken and not a hobby. My grandmother had chickens as a food source, eggs and meat. I loved the tiny chicks when I was at Granny’s, until I just wanted to pet one and got flogged by momma hen. I still loved the babies but had total respect for their space. My son decided to get a few chickens and when he decided to get rid of them my granddaughter was mad because “those are my chicks Ganny,” she was a 3 year old then. Guess what? Part of them come to my house for me to “keep” for her. Lol. I then bought a few more to add to the flock of 5 that I had. They are a hobby, I don’t sit and try to play with them but I do talk to them, feed and water them well, and am starting to build them a new house. I have a small chicken tractor but I just want a hen house. I’ve had no trouble with the 3 dogs, 1 cat and my chickens. My dogs are very spoiled big babies but terrorizing of chickens is not allowed. The cat is supposed to be be for mice and gophers but I think he’s too well fed to be a true hunter. I work as a Medical Billing Specialist, like flower and vegetable gardening, and keeping a nice yard. I like to bush hog and care for our small starter herd of cattle. I just like animals for the most part. I look forward to reading the forums
