Hello Im Mel! Glad to be here! Im an Adolescent Psychologist from Oklahoma and Domestic Violence survivor and advocate.
(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
I got a few chickens shortly after I escaped a dangerous situation 3 years ago, mainly as a reason to get out of bed every morning. Those silly girls saved my life and my sanity. Didnt matter how I felt they insisted I get up, drag myself out there and show them some love.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
currently I have around 50 chickens, 6 ducks, 20 quail, and 3 turkey. We wont discuss the incubators haha
(3) What breeds do you have?
Sapphire Gems, Black Australorps, Silver Laced Wyandotte, Easter Eggers, and a group of Silkies.
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
Every one has its own personality and besides looking alike you can easily tell them apart by thier attitude.
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
i crochet, garden, cook, bake, food preservation, and other homesteading grandma hobbies
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
I take care of my adult disabled daughter who is 26 years old, shes autistic. I have 3 dorky dogs. My job is very stressful I specialize in Adolescent ptsd and trauma. I actually have 3 hens and 2 ducks that are social enougg to take with me to work. They love being held and have helped several kids stay calm during some very bad times.

ive read several while googling the never ending wierd things that seem to come up with chickens.
