Hello from Oklahoma.

Welcome to BYC

The coop pages will give you some nice ideas and some of those come with detailed plans, which helps! For help choosing breeds, I'd suggest reading the Reviews and what others say in the Breeds section. Also look up the breeds threads in the General breed discussions & FAQ for more info and other's experiences. Enjoy the site!

I have been checking out the links and the learning center. Lots of good stuff.

I have a Christmas account due in November. It will be my funds $700.

I might spend more on the run to start with and go with a smaller coop.

The run will have to keep all.The wild critters out and dogs.I have never seen a weasel around here but I think saw one 30 miles from here.

Just be sure and use hardware cloth instead of chicken wire as too many critters can either tear through chicken wire or squeeze through the openings in the mesh (like weasels).

Once you get your chickens every predator for miles around will come to visit. If you have brutal winters, it's good to have an oversized coop -so the chickens can be happy inside.

We do get ice storms here and I do have a Red Tail hawk and an Owlthat roosts in my yard.
