Been lurking and reading for some time now...finally registered today.

Had thought about chickens for awhile, figured wouldn't happen since we live within a city, had my husband google
our cities bylaws and was suprised (most pleasantly) that they were permitted. Started planning from there.
Winters are harsh here...(this was october) figured I would wait to spring, as a newbie wanted to wait for milder
weather before starting.

The waiting is the hardest part.

My dad is coming to visit in the spring to assist in the building of the coop. Had figured I would get 3 chicks to start.
(By-Law states we can have up to 10) .... trying to reel myself in as I keep thinking...well maybe 6 in case something goes
horribly wrong...maybe 8??? We'll see what number I am at by the spring.

My Husband is becoming more and more enthusiastic about the idea as well which is great.

Learning lots from this site, and can't wait to participate with some chicken experience of my own!

Welcome from Connecticut! I'm planning to start in spring as well, and doing the same math as you. Four! No, 6! Eight! Wait, that's nuts...four! And around and around we go.

I hear you about the waiting being so hard. Luckily it's freezing already so I'm not tempted to start early.
