Hello! My name is Shilo. I live in Oregon, not far from Portland. I bought a home in August that came with chickens. Since then, I have "adopted" a tom turkey from a friend who was relocating. The hen that came with the turkey was tragically killed in a tetherball incident before he came to live with me! (I cringe even as I type that!)....We are hoping to expand our poultry flock in the near future....
I am learning as I go here, and am always looking for new information. I am excited to learn more and appreciate all of your expertise!

Thanks so much!

Welcome to byc and it is might good of you to adopt those birds. That is how we ended up with our tom, who we call Pavo, as well. He was unwanted and the posted on FB so we went and got him. Sure is a nice bird and follows us around like a puppy. He is going on four years old now, time flies. And oh boy is he ready for the cherry tomatoes to grow. He stands where the plant was last year just waiting for them...lol.

Anyway, welcome aboard and enjoy your flock!

Greetings and welcome to BYC! So glad you joined us. Trying to wrap my head around a tether ball turkey killing... :barnie:eek: Sorry that had to happen. Isn't it great that the house came with chickens? :clap Every new home purchase should come so equipped! :yaThere's a wealth of info, knowledge and experience shared in the multitude of threads. Browse around and see what interesting stuff you can find. By all means post away when the desire strikes you, especially if you have questions (provide as much detail/info as possible and pictures truly help)... With all the great folks here, generally someone will respond in no time at all. Please make yourself at home!

Oh, if you haven't done so already, PLEASE put at least your general location in your profile. It could be very important if/when you ask for or offer help or advice. You know, climate issues and such. I recommend at least your state as most folks won't be able to figure out where if you put anything more specific (county, town, street, etc) by itself. Old folks like me :old will never remember & look there first. To add it, mouse hover over Account top right and a drop down will appear. Click on Personal Details and scan down. You'll see the spot for Location. Then go to the bottom and save changes. Thanks! Hope you enjoy the site!

G’Day from down under Shilo :frow Welcome!

I hope you enjoy being a BYC member. There are lots of friendly and very helpful folks here so not only is it overflowing with useful information it is also a great place to make friends and have some fun.

You might want to also Find Your State Thread and pop in and say hello.

BYC has Topic of the Week discussions which I have found to be a great resource, informative and sometimes entertaining; so definitely worth checking out.

If you would like to share Pictures and Stories of your flock, you have come to the right place. BYC’ers never tire of these and do not back away slowly or commence eye rolling when the photo album or home videos come out ;)
