I'm a new chicken keeper and have found myself reading BYC posts for the last few months as I geared up for this new adventure. I finally decided to sign up! I'm the proud owner of 2 Barred Rocks and 2 Americauna (that look kinda silvery-lavender and buff, with black "beards") who I got just a couple of weeks ago; they are between 4 and 5 months old. I have a homemade (by d.h. and father-in-law) Catawba chicken tractor and an acre of fenced yard in the 'burbs. The girls are all tractor right now, but we're planning to build a run; free-ranging seems risky with neighbor dogs on either side of the fence and some pretty hungry red-tailed hawks in the neighborhood.
