In the Brooder
(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
I am a total chicken newbie. The chicks I ordered hatch on April 21! (My sister has two Indian Runner Ducks though)
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
0, but 6 chicks on order!
(3) What breeds do you have?
I ordered one of each:
Blue Americana
Green Queen
Silver Laced Wyandotte
White Crested Black Polish Bantam
Golden Buff
Silked Easter Egger
I wanted a variety of looks not only for the hen but also for the eggs! I'm a very visual person and will even plant something in my garden just because of what it looks like even if I don't intend on eating or using it as it's intended!
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
I'm looking forward to watching them grow up and be eager for treats and lay their first egg!
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
Gardening
Race car driving

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
My husband and I have two dogs: a Chihuahua and a Pug, plus a barn cat. Along with the 6 chicks coming in the spring we are also getting two honey bee Nucs as well! We both race automobile endurance races (24 Hours of Lemons) in our purple Miata and enjoy our collection of vehicles (mostly Miatas). Even though we only have one acre we're making the most out of this little plot of land to truly make it our own.
