(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?

I am new to chickens, I have always and still live in the city. So my first chickens will come in the Spring!

(2) How many chickens do you have right now?

I have no chickens right now, but I am prepping my home for them!

(3) What breeds do you have?

I don't have any right now, but I'm open to suggestions for family-friendly breeds!

(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?

I am just excited to share it with my daughter, and to add more animals to my family.

(5) What are some of your other hobbies?

I am a fiber artist! So you can pretty much catch me crocheting, sewing, and embroidering in my free time that I'm not spending with my daughter. I also enjoy reading, getting outdoors, and being around animals in general.

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.

I live in the city with my husband and my toddler. We have a big tabby cat named Max, and a brindle pug named Ruby (after the children's show). I work at a graduate program where we teach teachers! I'm a vegan/vegetarian and have a big love for animals.

(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?

I have been running into BYC when researching via Google and Pinterest. I wanted a place that seemed judgment-free to ask questions and learn more about how to take the best care of my new family members!

Hello and welcome to BYC! :frow

This is definitely the place to be for all the fun and learning! You might stop by our Learning Center for all kinds of good reads on all the aspects of keeping chickens... https://www.backyardchickens.com/articles/

And of course, ask as many questions as needed.

Oh I love to crochet! I have several projects going at once, all the time! Do you spin your fiber? I've always wanted to try that.

Make yourself at home here and welcome to our community!

I would totally engulf myself in the fiber making process if I had the time and money down to raising the sheep hahahhaha. I have never spun my own fiber but I'm always looking for local classes!

:welcome I'm not to far from you in Brightwood... An option for getting chicks: If you've ever seen Fran the Chicken Lady on the news, she's at Burn's feed store in Gresham. Getting chicks from Burn's is a great experience, you can call and reserve whatever breeds you want and Fran will load you up with knowledge. OR Portland Craig's list always has ads from local breeders. ENJOY!!
