My name is Candice. I live the Eastern Townships in Quebec, Canada in a medium-sized city. Seems I am not actually allowed to own chickens and have them live in the city, but I feel pretty confident that no one would notice, or that the 2 people who might notice wouldn't mind at all. And my landlord doesn't mind.
When I called at my city, they were very unsure and the only thing that made them answer that it wasn't allowed is that we can only have domestic animals in town. I know that in certain cities, chickens are considered domestic animals. I think I will get some and wait until it causes a problem (if that even every happens) and then take that as a chance to work on making it officially legal to own chickens. Because it's definitely not officially *illegal* right now. Just the person who answered me at the City filed chickens under farm animals. I don't think they've faced situations that made them need to put a law on them specifically.
I'm so glad a website like BYC exists! It has helped me so much in planning my coop! I am thinking of buying the Catawba plans and building that this weekend. If I do, I will post pictures!
