Update: Rhonda seems to be recovering and we might have found the cause of the blockage...a bit of broken shredded tarp was covering something in the garden and she may have injested bits of it. The timing of the blockage was literally two days after the tarp had been placed there :he

We have two hens (number three passed last spring). They have had several issues. We have had a long-term pecking problem, an egg-bound problem, shell-less egg problem, a broken toe at the nail, yolk peritonitis, and our latest issue, sour crop. Oh boy! We thankfully had your forum member posts to guide us to positive outcomes in every one of these challenges.

I'm sure that you now think that we are the negligent owners who have no right to own backyard chicken! That is really not the case. This is not our first batch of hens and had never experienced any issues at all! Despite the sleepless nights, hours of panic, and, yes, even a couple of tears, we love our little hens!

I have joined this forum to hopefully share our knowledge on how we have managed our emergencies and difficulties.

Hello, and welcome!! I'm glad to hear that BYC has been such a helpful resource for you. It sounds like this group of hens has had a case of bad luck, health wise, but extra good luck since they have someone who cares so much for them. Thank you for taking care of the challenging things you've dealt with so far. That must have been tough! We look forward to hearing your experiences. That's exactly what this place is all about.

Poor girl 😩 I hope she passes it. I've seen lots of blockage stories and see coconut oil suggested most of the time.
