Hi all, Emma here. I am living in rural eastern Canada and finally found a place where it may be possible to raise a few chickens. We are looking to start with ~4 chicks in the spring, hoping for friendly, supreme egg layers.

(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
Brand new! First realized that I'd like to try my hand at raising them when I was in undergrad, but never had the space to do so until now.

(2) How many chickens do you have right now?

0

(3) What breeds do you have?

Hoping for Easter Eggers, Orpingtons, Wyandotte...

(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?

I'm thinking it'll be taking care of another living being and forming a relationship with them. I have really enjoyed raising my 2 cats as well as dogs when I was younger, so meeting a totally different and unfamiliar species and learning about what they want out of life will, I assume, be very fulfilling and pleasantly challenging.

(5) What are some of your other hobbies?

I'm an avid baker, reader, walker, and crafter. I also make and sell soap and herbal products. I am hoping to go back to school one day to work on a project about the history of midwifery in Nova Scotia (if you have any stories about your birthing experiences, connection to midwifery, anything birth-related at all and would like to chat, reach out! I would love to talk with you!).

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.

I have 2 cats (Haircut, 7 y/o long-haired black cat, and Freezer Beef, 7 mos calico :D), work as a baker, and want to learn as much as I can.

(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community? :D

Google, of course! I have found many answers here over the past year or so of digging, so thought it'd be worthwhile to join.
