I‘m pretty new to chicken care, I’m actually looking into a good coop. I have the other materials because I’m into researching these things. So I don’t have any, I’m trying to actually get some and need help with finding a coop.

I want to honestly get into chicken care because a) I love animals, and as a result I‘m into their care deeply, I try my best to give my animals I do have the best and b) because I don’t like commercial eggs. I don’t like how chickens are treated in commercial care, so I want to raise my own and reduce the need to use commercially bought eggs.

I’m into art, I love writing and drawing, as well as animals. I had three animals: had 2 dogs (one died unfortunately) and a cat. I have 3 siblings and I’m going into a Masters degree in a year. I’m choosing still the path I want, but I’m currently a Public Health Major, not yet graduated, but I have time to decide.

I found this site when I tried looking at coops, actually. I want the best I can give a chicken, and I had bad feelings about prefab, but I’m not very good at construction. So I’m still looking for a pen for 4 chIckes with a run, for someone that’s never built anything from scratch. I’m very new though, so I’m still searching for advice, anything would be nice.

Hello, and welcome to BYC. You might want to consider an Amish made coop rather than a prefab.
Where can I find a place that makes them? I’ve been thinking about buying one Amish made because (quite frankly) I’ve never built something from scratch before, but I don’t like any of the prefab ones because they *look* small to me.

Is there a preferred place that I can buy at?

Welcome to Backyard Chickens. Have you thought buy a shed add a chicken door nest boxes and a roost.
Windows covered by hardware cloth.?
I was also thinking that, I’m not very...good at construction? But that was another option I was leaning to.

I was thinking of buying a used or small garden shed and attaching a dog kennel? i can’t free roam, because thats illegal in my area. But that was the other general idea I had, since I’m bad at building a building and I don’t trust myself due to general inexperience.

But yeah, mostly I was thinking of adding nest boxes and roosts, I have been looking into a few for a while because I also didn’t like the original roosts they had in prefab coops

You're in a beautiful area! My family lived in Union County for a few years whh I was young and I still miss it sometimes.

It's usually much easier to modify something than build from scratch. A shed coop would be a fairly good intro, especially if you know someone you could borrow tools from. Lots of info here and on YouTube to get started. You can do it!
