I have spent a lot of time in the BYC forum reading in the past few years. A month ago I finally bought baby chicks at Tractor Supply and the Southern States feed store in my area. This may sound silly but I only bought chicks because I need their manure to speed up my composts for my nursery which is my "day job" eggs and meat are just an extra benefit. For years I thought I was not allowed to have chickens and I tried to put a bird feeder over my high carbon composts but I was spending a lot of money for bird seed for very little droppings so after finding the lax chicken codes in my city I thought I would give raising chickens could produce the nitrogen I desperately need. After a month I am enjoying taking care of my chickens more than I enjoy propagating plants which use to be my love in life. I turned my 150 sq ft storage shed into a coop and currently building a nice chicken run that will be fenced in even overhead so they have an outdoor area that is secure. They will also free range outside of that when I am outside all day working in the nursery. So far no problems to ask questions about that I have not already found on some thread but I am sure I will have plenty in the future.

Welcome! I have a friend in salisbury who is looking into getting chickens. I am trying to help her learn the laws on them, but am having a hard time finding anything on it! Being in AZ probably doesn't help much either. :) would you be so kind as to point me in the right direction.?
