Greetings!

I'm new to BYC, but I've been reading lots about chickens on here lately! I'm in the process of building my coop and getting ready to welcome some hens into our household and I am so excited! I live in the city of SLO, so I'm limited to a small number of chickens, no roosters. I'm partial to the idea of bantams because they are tiny, and I'm looking for a relatively quiet and friendly breed, and hopefully a few eggs to boot.

If anyone lives here in SLO and has any pointers on this city and chicken raising, I'd be thankful for your input.

I'm looking into buying some bantam pullets, but have realized that December is a wacky time of year to be doing this apparently. If you live on the Central Coast and will have some girls you're looking to sell around the end of the year, let me know (I'll post over on the classifieds section soon)!

Thanks, BYC and all of the posters, for heaps of information and details about chickens!

I think you'll enjoy Silkies. They are simply adorable, but not great egg layers... Have a look here:

For people in your are try the Where am I? Where are you! section. Have fun!
