First of all, you're right about not being able to take the "country" out of the girl.
I grew up in rural southern Iowa where we had chickens, ducks and sheep. I spent (too many) years living in towns and cities, and now, thankfully have an acreage in near Fort Dodge where I can have any critter I want. I have a LOT of chickens, ducks and geese, still have sheep and goats, and used to have donkeys, plus --of course -- dogs and cats.
Sounds like you have some really good starter breeds on the way and that you will have some good foundation knowledge for caring for them. I bet your granddaughter will fall in love with the chicks!
Retirement has been amazing for me; I hope it's the same for you.
