I'm new to chickens with a 10 lady flock of light and dark brahmas, barred rocks, Easter eggers and speckled Sussex. I got chickens for the eggs, but I have come to know each of them and their crazy personalities make me smile. I came across this forum as I searched the web for help for Etta, my sweet and shy light brahma. I've seen a lot of good and helpful information and I thank you all so much for helping me help her. Please send positive thoughts for Etta's eye to heal.

I noticed this evening that it is swollen and she won't open it. I've rinsed it with sterile water (I don't have any of the medicines mentioned and no saline solution yet), quarantined her in the garage, and I'll be watching her closely for any signs of the respiratory infection that so many have mentioned. Thanks for thinking of my Etta!

I hope Etta's eye heals.
It may or may not be respiratory related. If she is breathing normally, she may very well have been pecked near her eye. I had a pullet that got pecked just above her eye and her eye swelled nearly completely shut. After a few days the swelling subsided and she was fine.
