I am at best a pre-newbie chicken grower. My wife (who grew up with chickens on her farm) and I have talked about this for a couple of years and are getting closer and closer to pulling the trigger on diving in. We have several acres of land in the country, and currently have bees. I thought joining this forum would give me a chance to listen in on what other growers--especially new ones--deal with on a day-to-day basis. For instance, what do you do with 30 inches of snow on the ground like we currently have?

Looking forward to learning a lot so we can make the right decision about getting chickens or not--for our sake and theirs!

Welcome, fromEastern Wa. No sense it testing the water before getting in. Just get a run at it and do a huge cannon ball LOL.
Chickens are not that bothered by cold weather, heat is more of a danger.

Have a roof on your run, put some plastic around it and have a big enough coop and they're good til spring. I hope. They're easier than dogs...

A warm welcome from an imp in Washington

The right decision is:

GET CHICKENS!
