Hello from Seattle!

Hi -

I'm new to this site and am looking forward to learning lots about urban farming. My family and I raise 6 chickens in our backyard and grow about 30-40 edibles on our city plot every year.

We also have an issue with one of our flock - a 9 month old cuckoo maran that has yet to lay an egg. All the other hens are laying just fine. Any ideas on what the problem might be?

I am not sure about Cuckoo Marans and when they lay. You might want to ask this question in the Marans thread as to why she is not laying yet...

X2 check out the Marans thread TwoCrows linked for you, and here is a nice thread that covers a lot of reasons hens may not be laying https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/423023/why-arent-my-chickens-laying-here-are-your-answers A lot of the Cuckoo colored ones do not lay really dark eggs so could she be laying a lighter colored egg that looks like somebody elses?

Hi Kelsie - she's definitely not laying as I've identified the eggs from all the others. Never sets foot in the brooder box either. I will check out your suggested thread though!
