So i am new to raising chickens. I live on an acre and a half, no neighbors. Just found out i cant legally own a chicken. If we lived in our other house a mile away that is lot line only we could have 5 !! Makes no sense, any ideas on what to do.

Welcome to BYC! Please make yourself at home and we are here to help.

Yay that you can own chickens!!!!

But, the only one limit concerns me; chickens are social creatures and need contact with other chickens. So, I'm not sure what to do there...

Be sure to check out our learning center and feel free to ask any other questions.

Check out the above links and go make double sure what your local ordinances say. Fingers crossed!

Thank you all i am finding there a way around this. The lady at code enforcement said she has chickens herself as long as your neighbors don't complain they don't care. We live

on acreage and we don't have close quarters with our neighbors most of our neighbors to have chickens. She told me to keep the chickens because they are trying very hard to change the ordinances.

If you can keep them if the neighbors don't complain, keep them happy! Give them lots of eggs, keep it clean, no roosters and if they have kids, let them come over and play with the chickens once in a while. Do what ever you have to to keep your babies!!

And if it really gets ugly, you might consider house chickens.
