Don't feel awkward that you can't share experiences -- yet -- you have already helped me learn some things. I had never heard of Styrian chickens, so I immediately had to Google those. They sound pretty cool! Same with Hovawart dogs!
I agree that, in many ways, ducks are easier to keep -- especially in more severe weather; cold, rain, snow, none of it seems to bother them. With no combs or wattles, frostbite is less of an issue. They can be every bit as entertaining as chickens and often just as productive egg layers.
