Hello, My name is Melissa and I live in Corona CA. My husband and I have been working on building our chicken run for the past two years. We are not 100% ready for chicken yet but we are getting closer. We live on a hill so construction has been a slow process since we are doing it on our own. I know we are over killing this build but we want to make sure our dogs and other preditors can't get them, and they cant get out. We just got the house two weeks a go. We still have three more projects to finish before I can pick out the pullets/hens. (ie; top dear netting, hot wire the top, and build a front gate.)

We are only zoned for 4 hens. I still dont know what breeds to go with. So many options, I may adopt older ones too. So So So many options. Im getting excited.

(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
I've had chickens growing up.

(2) How many chickens do you have right now?

Zero at the moment

(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?

I want fresh eggs for our family and Dogs.

(5) What are some of your other hobbies?

I play with cars: VW, MINI and Fiats.

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.

Its just my husband and I. We have 3 dogs. Two retired racing greyhounds and a Chug.

Hello, and welcome! Good luck with the build and your future flock! It's looking great so far. Do you plan to cover the top of it too, so no climbing or flying predator can get in there too?

Yes, we are planing to run cross cables to support dear netting or a thicker option like hex wire. Plus we are running a solar electric wire on the exterior to keep squirls, cats and racoon off. We're going for fort Knox. lol

Hello, welcome to BYC.
You should consider cover at least a portion of your run with a solid roof, as you will need a place to keep food and water. It will also allow you to leave your hen house open. I wouldn't trust chicken wire, even with an electric wire. I'd use hardware cloth for the entire thing.
