Hello againHi all. My name is Teagan.
After 18 years of pestering, I finally convinced my mom we should get some land so I could have horses. Thanks to an inheritance from some departed loved ones, we were finally able to make that happen.
We moved to 8.7 acres last November, and Cuppa Tea Horse Ranch was born. I kind of wish I hadn't put horse in the title because I want more than just horses, but oh well. Horses are my main obsession after all.
I currently own a miniature horse named Marble, a quarter horse named Bueno, a Colorado Ranger named Kidd, a black Labrador named Stanley, and three young guinea fowl. My parents and brother also own a Yorky named flounder, a cat named Ivy, and a leopard gecko named mitis.
My quarter horse doesn't currently live on the property as I lease him to a therapeutic riding center where he gives lessons. That therapeutic riding center is actually where I got the Colorado Ranger from. He's 27 years old and needed to be retired due to back problems, and giving horses a happy, comfortable retirement makes me happier than just about anything else in the world.
The previous owners did not maintain any of the facilities besides the human living quarters and absolutely trashed a lot of the land. They didn't maintain the woods that cover much of the property and did nothing to stop an invasive vine infestation. They also basically used the woods as a dumping ground For all of their car parts, as the father of the family was quite the gearhead. We have a ton of work cut out for us, but I'm kind of glad we are able to help the land and restore it. Plus, this already wonderful place will be a slice of heaven once we've cleaned it up. I would love to have track systems roaming the entire property to keep the horses healthy and active. I would love to have a couple of full-size horses, some miniatures, and hopefully a couple of donkeys and goats. I also want guinea fowl, which is why I joined this forum.
The thing that sets me apart and why I called myself different in the title? Well, I'm actually blind. That black Labrador of mine is actually my guide dog. I'm down to just one eyeball, and it's not super functional. There's still enough vision to help me navigate familiar areas, but it's bad enough that it can't even be measured with a number anymore. It makes things different and somethings hard for sure, but it doesn't stop me. Slows me down yes, stopped me, no.
People have already been helping me in relation to the Guinea fowl, and it's very appreciated. This form seems like an awesome community, but I'm struggling with the accessibility. I might lerk more than anything simply because it's hard to actually participate when the text box doesn't work.
I do have a Facebook page where you can see our humble little facilities. At this point I'm mostly sharing about training, because I would like to lead by example and demonstrate that positive reinforcement is a more effective and humane way to train horses than what is usually seen.

Thank you all for creating such a wonderful, welcoming community. Glad to be here!
