I don't have any chickens yet, but I am thinking about getting 3 to 5 hens. We have two young children (age 9mos and 3yrs) and love the idea of teaching them about raising their own food. Besides, I think having a few hens would be fun! We live in town, so no roosters allowed and we can only have a small flock. We have a heavy gauge chain link dog run, with a chain link top that has been sitting vacant for three years. Can't wait to turn it into an urban chicken run

. Several of our neighbors have backyard chickens and a friend has a ever increasing flock of over 50 birds.

Hey from just south of you in Oakland!

I don't know how soon you're looking to start your flock but I actually have chicks available right now, that I hatched from eggs laid by my own hens. We raise Blue Wheaten Ameraucanas and English Orpingtons here in the Bay Area.

Here's the CL link to the chicken ad, PM me and we can talk some more.

OH and don't forget to check out the Bay Area thread!
