Hi,
We live in South Alabama and have had our chicks for only 2 weeks.
We started with 12, now we are down to 8. I think we have 3 Rhode Island Reds and 5 sex links, although not really sure on that yet. We built a little pen with the smallest chicken wire until we could get until our coop and outside area set up for them and well, a cat was getting to them.
We secured it better and one night I actually saw a cat yanking one of the chickens through the wire. I have no idea how since the wire was so small and it was not cut or bent. Anyway, now it's super secured, and 8 seems to be the perfect number for us, so here's hoping we don't have any more trouble.
I just found this site looking for basic chicken care information as we have never had chickens. We are enjoying them so far. I know there is a time when you stop having their food available 24-7, but looking for the right answer and other things like that. I have already learned so much!
Thanks a bunch!
