Hello from South Australia! I am new to the chicken world!

We have finally done it! After living on our property for 5 years we have finally built a chicken coop! The run is yet to be done but it's on it's way. I'm off to see a hobby breeder tomorrow to look at all the chickens he breeds and to choose. I'm tossing up between the Light Sussex and the Plymouth Rocks at the moment. And then there is the decision as to whether I want POL or pullets to raise. I have 2 young children who are also very excited about getting chickens. In the future I would like to breed birds for meat as well as I like knowing where my food is coming from. Guess I will need a rooster then too!
