Hi! Megan and Chelsea here. We're long time lurkers/readers but finally got our act together and registered. :P

We got our first 4 chicks just this past March (2017) and then got a couple more chicks and a couple more currently have 25 chickens and 1 goose... That chicken math is hard. Especially for 2 English professors like us.

Since we do a lot of teaching and introduction to basic farm skills (canning, quilting, sewing, gardening, pickling, etc) here at LochNest (built in 1946), we have a really mixed up flock to show the types and traits of different breeds.

Our Rooster:

Henrietta (aka Hen the Roo): a white easter egger who is sweet, gentle, and protective

The girls in alphabetical order:
Alsalanne: Dominique and our "I want to be the tallest" chicken
Cadbury: Delaware and the cleverest of the lot
Charlotte: chocolate orpington who comes running when called
Ellerbee: chocolate cuckoo orpington who thinks Megan is mom
Floride ("Floor-eed"): Silver Laced Wyandotte and lover of ants
Genevieve: Ameraucana and shy thing
Georgina: Golden Laced Wyandotte and babysitter and fearless dog tormentor
Jane Edna: black copper maran and top hen
Lizzie: cuckoo maran and halpless follower
Maria: backyard mix and our "bantam partridge guinea" (she's odd looking)
Millicent: Rhode Island Red and our best layer so far
Nancy: Ameraucana and lover of dust baths
Penelope: backyard mix (Maria's sister) and the "frazzled frizzle"
Phyllis: black copper maran and our friendliest girl
Stella: speckled sussex and Great Jungle Explorer (TM)
Victoria: blue cochin mix and purple punkrocker (due to staining of kote)
The chicks:
Dorothea: Barred rock
Gertrude: California White
Kitty: silkie cochin mix (def a pullet)
Melba: Svart Hona
Poppet: buff silkie (?)
Opalina: cochin mix (?)
Roxanne: cochin mix (def a cockerel)
Sue: California White with possible myostatin issue due to gigantism
The Goose:
Valentine: Lavender Ice and feathered toddler

The Rescue Dogs:
Nellie: lab mix who was born as a tripawd due to umblical cord strangulating her front right leg
The Rodent: chihuahua/schipperke cross with deformed back leg due to untreated injury
+ whatever foster dog we have at a given moment
We also plan on getting a breed set of Cotton Patch geese in spring!
