(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?

We have had chickens now for about 4 or 5 years now.

(2) How many chickens do you have right now?

Currently we have 9 and we have had up to 21 before.

(3) What breeds do you have?

Americana, Rhode Island Red, Golden Comet, Isa Brown, Buff Orpington and Black Astrolorp (I think)

(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?

Their company! Our gerls are very affectionate but it hasn't come easy. Lots and lots of bribing seems to do the trick! ;)

(5) What are some of your other hobbies?

OHH ... a long list here but the basics are photography, wood working, gardening, chicken tenderer among many others :)

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.

We have 3 children, 1 grand daughter and currently 3 cats, 3 rabbits and 9 chickens :) We are thinking of letting everything live out their lives without getting more for a period as we will be retiring in the next 5 to 10 years (hopefully) and thought it might be nice to do some "exploring" without ties to bring us home before sunset every day. Our gerls all free range the yard every day and have always put themselves to bed every evening but we have to lower their door right at dark as you all very well know. We have had a couple close calls before. Even though I say this now, I'm not sure how willing I will be to not have a few hens running about the yard to greet me every time I go outside. The cats are nice, the rabbits I can live without but

I love my ?gerls" :)

(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community? :D

I guess I have seen you in and around facebook and google searches for a long time. I just though it would be nice (and helpful) to be able to join in on conversations. And enjoy meeting like minded people I'm sure. :)
