Hi there and welcome.
You are being smart.
Read all you can. Do your research. Learn all you can beforehand.
It saves on big headaches later.
Chicken keeping is a fun and rewarding hobby.
The most important things to consider when building or buying your coop, always err on the side of “go bigger and stronger than you think you’ll need”. You’ll be glad you did.
Get on your state thread too, there’s lots of Vols on BYC.
Thanks for the welcome and the advice! Finding the right coop is probably my biggest hurdle since my husband and I are not builders. I was so excited to find a local man who sells coops. They look sturdy and well built (to my limited experience). He'll make BIG ones. They're not at all cheap but do-able. I was very disheartened when I realized that it would be impossible to get the huge trailer he delivers them on to the backyard spot I want. Ughh. I could put it in the back field probably but that seems so far away. Or I could get a smaller coop from him that doesn't require the huge trailer, but I think I'm going to wait and see if I can find another solution...even though I want chickens NOW, haha. I'm going to search the forum and see if anyone else has had a similar problem. Thanks again for the welcome! I can really lose track of time on this site!!
