Hello All,

I JUST joined looking to research possible chickens in the yard. I'll be looking for everything like coops or plans to build, feeders, breeds for my climate, bedding, etc.

I am interested in eggs, but also interested in pest control like ticks and ants, so they would be free range during the day. I live in the woods, so I am also concerned about predators.

As a child we had several (10 plus) chickens. So I have fond memories but almost no working knowledge.

Thanks!

Thanks for the warm welcome.

Should I wait until Spring and get chicks? I know so little I think I want to research before the snow flies up here. Thoughts?

Hi and :welcome

You don't have to wait until spring, as long as you have a good heat lamp and you can keep the chicks warm. We have raised chicks starting in winter. However, they don't get as much outdoors time.

Good luck, I hope you find everything you need here, and enjoy the site. :D
