welcome to BYC from Bridge ST
After 40 years of saying I would NEVER have chickens I now find myself with 73 of them. I was talked into them by my amazing husband. He wanted 18 or so for fresh eggs for us and the extra ones to go with us to our local growers market. I got to pick which breed and I went with Barred Rocks. I remember losing quite a few when I was 5/6 years old and catching them so we could paint there bottoms with white shoe polish to cover up the bare and bloody spots, that's why I hated them for so long. We ordered 25 pullets thinking we would have 18 of so when we finished, they all made it.
Since that went so well my daughter signed up for 4-H poultry and wanted a few more breeds. As of this post we have; Barred and Partridge Rocks, Black Sex-links, Speckled Sussex's, Light Brahmas, Americana, Golden Laced Polish, Quail Old English Games, Fawn Silver Duckwing, Dutch Bantam, Quail D'andvers, Buff & Dark Brahma bantams, Silver laced Wyandotte bantams.
I volunteer with 3 different 4-H clubs plus having a booth most saturdays that our local growers market is open.
