(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens? My family has never had chickens until this year.

(2) We currently have 13 "girls".....at least we hope that these remaining chickens are all hens! We had 3 others that turned out to be roosters, which we couldn't have due to location.

(3) We have 1 RIR, 2 EE, 3 Buff Orpingtons, 3 Barred Rock, 1 Black Cochin Bantam, 1 Silver Laced Wyandotte, 2 Red Sex-links. We still figure we have about a month or so until the girls are ready to start laying eggs. It's been fun learning the different personalities of all the girls. Some are VERY vocal, while others are fairly quiet. Some are high-strung and always moving. Others are very social and want to be around us humans alot.....they know who brings the treats! They all have very distinct personalities. like people.

(4) How did you find out about BackYardChickens.com? My dad has been following the website for a while, as he contemplated getting a flock together. He would recommend threads to read and coop plans to look at. His addiction became mine! We both love to read in the Forum.

(5) I grew up around animals, both big and small, and still love all types of critters. I have 2 dogs and 4 cats here at home. The chickens are at my parents home, although my son and I spend a LOT of time over there watching the girls. I love, love, love to fish. Walleye, perch, trout, salmon, halibut....you name it, I want to catch it! My son and I are also learning to play hockey.....and loving every minute of it.

(6) Family is hugely important to me. My son and I love to spend time with my parents and my brother's family. We frequently have get-togethers at the parents place, so we can enjoy their acreage and animals. I am the proud mom to one teenage son, 2 Alaskan Malamutes, and 4 shelter rescued cats.

I love reading through this forum. Many highly entertaining stories to share with the family.

I am new this year to chickens after having them when I was just a kid. Wish I had done it sooner. I currently have 6 birds. 4 easter egger roos and two wheaten marans chicks which were sold to me as hens (so they better be!). But this week I am getting in 25 chicks - 13 will be cornish X for meat and there will be 12 hen chicks - anconas, easter eggers, red star, black star, buff orpintons, black australorps, and Delawares.
I found BYC when doing an internet search for chicken coops - since then I have spent hours and hours reading and learning. It's really a great site.
Best of luck with your chicken raising exploits and again, welcome aboard!
