Hi everyone!
My name is Jamie and I live in Spring Valley, OH on 5 acres. Half of that is pasture for our mini-donkeys. I have wanted chickens since we moved here last year, but we finally are getting around to buying a chicken coop. We have 4 children 8 and under, 2 indoor cats, and a 10 month old vizsla puppy.
Our neighbor sold us this cute coop. She said it will hold 2 hens comfortably. I will add dimensions later when I am back home. We want to add wheels so we can move it. I would love to make a larger run area too at some point using tposts and Hogwire.
I am new to chickens, but thankfully I have a couple friends that are experienced that can give me tips. I’m hoping to learn lots of things on here too.
I’m not sure what the best type will be for us. I’m thinking it needs to be both cold and heat tolerant. I don’t necessary care about the color of the eggs. If you have a type you think would work, let me know.
We have coyotes and foxes out here, so I’m a little nervous about how I will predator-proof the coop. I’m adding that to the list of research I’m doing.
I look forward to learning from all of you, and hopefully I can contribute when I am a “pro” lol.
