Hello from St Helens Oregon. I'm not new to raising Chickens but it has been a good 30 years since the last time and now that my husband and I are both retired we can enjoy them more. Bought day olds for Mothers Day in April and now they are starting to lay which is a new little surprise every day. At first I only bought four Rhode Island Reds and four White leghorns hens but about a month after received three Americonas ( I will have to look up the correct spelling) hens and rooster from a friend. We allow our gals & guy to free range our property which of course presents additional little surprises (and issues) to the many gardens we have and we are now experts at wing clipping! And they still get over the fences, through the fences and under a couple out buildings. Along with the chickens we are proud parents to 2 adult male labs, 10 cats and within the last month adopted a miniture border collie/ausie shepheard mix puppy! And since we live in the county and receive daily visits from the deer population, the squirrel population and the many wild birds in our area, we feed them as well. Good thing all our offsprings are grown and on their own! As for hobbies other than our animals we enjoy fishing, crabbing, camping, gardening and enjoying our friends and family.

Found out about BackYard Chickens just through surfing for info on chickens. Enjoyed the site so much I decided to join but never introduced myself until now. From the information received I have constructed both the watering and feeding systems out of 5 gallon buckets and have enjoyed reading the many blogs members have shared which have proven valuable.

Hope we can chat sometime!

PS: Don't Americona Roosters crow?

We share the same hobbies! Well,.. maybe not not the crabbing part. Not a lot of crabs around here. I like to eat them though! BTW, I believe Ameraucana roosters do crow!
