Well what a year...

My first year with chickens, raised them at the start of last summer, we got through -50 F temps in January, with little to no heat, lost only one hen...poor old thing...tonnes of snow in March and April...and some major Fox attacks last week.

We started out with 26 chickens, 2 Turkeys, 2 ducks and 6 geese.

Ate 1 turkey, 2 geese, lost 2 ducks (ran away with wild birds) 1 chicken to cold, 11 to the fox...

So I am starting again with more turkeys, I would like to hatch some of my own eggs...So any help woudl be gretly appreciated![im

Welcome to BYC!!! It's so nice to see so many Alaskans on here! Where are you in "central Alaska"? Are you in a city or the bush?
Well anyways, I hope you have fun on here, but beware, BYC is HIGHLY ADDICTIVE!

we are attached to Eielson AFB, we live in Salcha. A nice intermediate between the Bush and town living...

We have 10 Acres and esides the predator problem...we really like it, I am learing alot about how hardy chickens really are!
The weather this year really didn;t phase them!

Where are you located in AK? And what do you keep?
