Hi everyone .. First off, I love seeing everyone's breeds and coops, etc! My name is Melody and I live in Bayfield, Co right outside Durango. My funky little blended family and I (fiance, my two kids & his two kids & 5 dogs) just decided to added chickens to the big happy bunch. We started off with 2 Barred Rock & 2 Orpingtons and we all fell in love and I went back and got two more Rhode Island Reds. I'm hoping someone gets me a silkie for Mothers Day We are off to a good start and they are growing up so quick and have the funnest little personalities. I'm excited to see them progress and I love tending to them after a day at work. Never in my life did I think I'd be a gal who is raising chickens, but I love love love it and love hearing about everyone elses experiences! Nice to 'meet' you all! ~Melody

Hello Neighbor! I'm in Bayfield, too. Just got my first peeps yesterday from Gem Village feed store.
I'm trying to learn quick so any advice for high altitude and cold winters (and anything else) would be appreciated.
I bought 4 Production Red (same as Sexlink) and 2 Buff Orphingtons.
My kids and the neighborhood kids are constantly handling them. I make them rotate often so they are
getting warmed up in the heat lamp. I hope it won't be too much handling for baby chicks.
