I've been lurking here for many months, and first, let me say "CURSE YOU BYC for FEEDING MY ADDICTION". BYC is one of those websites that make you sit back and say, "I guess the internet ain't so bad after all." I'd like to thank all of you who have contributed to my general poultry knowledge, you are too many to name and I apologize for that.
We currently live in SouthWest Florida, and have six 12 week old chickens, plus a 2 3 week old chicks (barred Rock, they are so pretty already!). My coop and run were designed and built using the ideas and posts of fellow BYC members, and for that, I again thank them. The elevated coop has a run underneath it (about 7x3 feet), plus an extra run area of 6x13 feet. Probably a bit tight for 8 chickens, but I plan on getting rid of the two roosters soon, so 5 should fit in there fine.
My older chickens are a mix of RIR/Ameracauna(EE)/barred rock, but what I thought would be barred rocks in the first batch ended up being two black sexlink pullets (thats why I subsequently purchased a pair of BR chicks). I have one RIR pullet with very beautiful orange/red/brown feathers, and then the roosters I believe are Americauna(EE) mixes, stunning roosters I must say. I'll post pics when I get posting privileges later.
Again, thanks to BYC and its members for helping me in my new hobby, I look forward to learning more and more each day, and contributing when I can.
