Hi,

I wish I would have found this site sooner <:) I have 8 ISA brown hens and one evil rooster. Winter sucks, but we have to deal with it here. I have a 8'x10' shed as my coop (v2.0) and have a light to simulate sunlight. We are considering getting 6-8 more in the spring as we have friends who love the eggs. Glad to be a part of the forum!

Winter is certainly a hard time to raise chickens (or do anything else, for that matter), at least if you live in a cold area. Fortunately, chickens are hardy animals that don't usually have trouble with the cold. Just make sure your coop is well ventilated, watch for signs of disease, and your flock should be fine.

Good luck!

Welcome to BYC. Glad you decided to our flock. Isa Browns are one of a number of labels under which some hatcheries market their Red Sex Links, and they are laying machines. You should get lots of eggs from those girls. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. Good luck with your flock.

Never a good reason to keep a bad rooster. The market is filled with roosters needing to be rehomed - many of them very good roosters and beautiful to boot. Dump the bad one and get a good one for your hens.
