Hello BYC, I am a small hobby farmer and Farmer's Market vendor in PA and WV. Although I don't market any of my poultry I think they are one of the most valuable assets on the place. I started with a straight run batch American Buckeyes from Meyers Hatchery 4/09. After some very succesful hatches last year I am wintering 18 hens and a rooster. I think they are great birds. I get enough eggs for my whole family (mother, 3 brothers and their families) and I am tickled to death with the additions to the freezer. Great leg and thigh portions! They also do a great job of insect patrol. I had a terrible run in w/jap beetles last year and I set three hens in my garden and they were gone in two days. slugs - gone. ticks - gone. Fleas - gone. What more could you want and compost too. I am so looking forward to browsing the posts. [IMG]

[IMG] Greetings! You have Buckeyes! Just what I've been pondering. Those "meaty thighs" sound very tasty....
