I have been lurking for a little bit reading a ton of great information!! I love this website - stumbled upon while searching online. I am new to chickens! I was going to order some online from a hatchery but decided to try and make the Clarion Chickenstock next weekend instead.
I am from Pennsylvania - near Pittsburgh. I currently have a few housecats and a Black Lab plus all the local wildlife I end up feeding. We are currently building our chicken coop based on some of the coop ideas on this website. I am trying to make it mainly from recycled material - pallets and such. I have my brooding area all set up and cannot wait to get my first chicks. We are thinking of starting with Speckled Sussex or Orpingtons.
I currently finished reading the Storey's guide to raising chickens and after reading all the material on this website I am really excited. My husband on the other hand is a dear sweet man that humors me on all my ideas!
I hope to get to know a lot of you on the boards as I am sure to have some questions and woo hoo posts along the way. I am really glad to have found such a great wealth of information.
