I have heard that too and have decided to keep doing what I’m doing which is not to add any artificial light.Hiya, and welcome to BYC!
Ours do lay in the winter, albeit half as many, and it's mostly the newer layers that will generally do that. It's said a hen has a destiny of laying a certain amount of eggs in their life, and if we alter lighting in the winter to try keep her laying, she'll possibly be less healthy and will stop laying earlier in life than those allowed to rest in the winter.
They are starting to lay again anyway and probably enjoyed the rest!
