Hello from Syracuse!

Good Morning Tgrlily

And Hi from a tad south of Utica! TSC in Oneida gets their chicks from Mount Healthy Hatchery. They should be getting them in about a week before Easter. Woohoo! Fuzzy Butts! Show quality will take you a bit of hunting, but folks here on the boards can most likely hook you up. Another place to get show stock is by going to poultry shows. There were a few at the Syr fairgrounds last year. Talk to people that show.... the auctions? Vernon, West Winfield.... but quite honestly? Some folks dump their sick and/or genetically messed up stock at the auction. Caveat Emptor to the extreme.

Enjoy your chicken adventure! You are going to have a blast

in Poland, NY. I agree with everyone if your looking to show the birds your best bet is to get the birds from a breeder. I have buff orpingtons and EE mutts from a hatchery. They are very nice birds but not "show" quality. It's still kinda early for peeps to be selling chicks at auction. Someone on the pennysaver website has chicks for sale locally http://www.pennysaveronline.com/classified/ads/farm/

Thanks for the link, redoak! THe auction I went to in Bridgeport was not what I expected, but I'm glad I went. Very nearly came home with a bunny! hehehehe I guess I have to have more patience. I posted again on craigslist & got email from someone with several of the breeds we want... including Dorkings for my son! Unfortunately, they won't hatch till April 8th
