Hello from east Tennessee ! I am a 66 yr old female living with my wife in a rural area outside of knoxville TN. We never had chickens or farm animals until a couple months ago when a rooster suddenly showed up in our yard. I asked my neighbors if they knew who's rooster it could possibly be and no one knew of anyone having chickens in our immediate area. Several days passed and the rooster was still here, so I thought I better get him some sort of coop because of the predators here, especially the racoons at night. I searched on craigslist for a coop and found a local guy who had one for sale he made, so I went to look at it. I explained my situation to him and he suggested I get a hen to lure the rooster into the coop at night. He offered me a bantam hen he had, and me not awarethat a regular size rooster might harm a small bantam trying to mate , I said yes and came home with a small bantam hen and the coop. Not realizing how I would get the rooster into the coop at night if I did not want to free range the hen, senior moment....anyways the rooster stayed free ranging and sleeping way up in the oak tree at night, but the little hen was lonely. I called the guy back and asked if he had anymore bantams he could sell me and he offered the two he had left..a hen and a rooster, so home they came with me. My free range big rooster is called "Wilbur" and my bantam rooster is named "jack" and the two hens are Manny and Moe. This is the first coop I bought :
