I am fairly new to Ducks, have no chickens, but plan on eventually adding some. Can not seem to decide on a chicken breed at this time. I go my first Ducks back at the end of March ‘22.
Right now I have 4 adult ducks, 1 juvenile and 5 a day or two over a week old.
My adults are 3 Swedish Blue and a Pekin, my juvenile is a Rouen. The new babies I have another Rouen, another Pekin, and believe 3 of those Golden 300 hybrid ducks.
I have to say I enjoy the antics of these guys. they seem to always make us laugh. They meet Us whenever we leave and come home, they come running to greet us at the car. They protest if we do not bring them treats fast enough, or they decide they deserve more and we try to tell them they got all they get lol.
I really don’t have hobbies anymore, as I have been focused on learning everything I can on ducks, chickens, and farming and pretty much take up all my time trying to learn all this as I would like to start my own small “farm”.
Me and my wife have two kids, but they are grown, one is autistic. We also have 3 Dogs, and 1 Cat and 2 Kittens for pets. Although no Livestock guardian dogs, our rat terrier has turned out to be a good watch dog.
I found BYC looking for information to learn about chickens and ducks, have found a lot of information on here that has been invaluable on my journey to trying to establish my own flocks. I finally decided it was time to join so I could directly ask questions if I need, and possibly even be of a little help here and there myself with what I have already learned.
Our first 4 all ended up being male, so will be having to reduce that down, still not quite sure with our juvenile rouen if it is a female or not. Atleast one of the new ones should be a female. Was really excited hoping to have eggs by now, but unfortunately didn’t happen.
