Hi y'all! We moved to the country at the end of December and are excited to start our little farm life with chickens!
I grew up on a farm with horses & goats. My dad passed away when I was 11 so my mom and I moved to town. My grandma always had backyard chickens, but I was young and didn't pay attention like I wish I had.

Welcome, chickens are a wonderful and diverse hobby. I think you are going to enjoy keeping them. There's lots of good information on this site and folks who enjoy discussing everything chicken.

One lovely thing about chickens in Texas...there are many breeds that both thrive in the heat and lay well.

Have you gotten a coop set up yet?

The coop pages on BYC are an excellent resource. Being in Texas, you will want shade and great big giant areas that are covered just with hardware cloth. Also, excellent predator protection will be needed.

I grew up down in Texas and my family still lives there.

My Cousin Deb lives outside of Houston. Never made it out there but she says she loves it!
I live in North Central Florida.
I just wanted to welcome you to one of the greatest forum sites related to poultry. It has helped me beyond words!
This is a simple guide to help you learn the ropes so to speak...
I am looking foward to swapping notes with you!
Best regards.
