Welcome to Backyard Chickens! We are glad you joined the flock!:welcome BYC is a helpful site providing all of the information you need to know about poultry. There is always space for members on the BYC roost!:highfive: What breeds are you planning on adding to your new flock?

Hope you enjoy it here as much as we all do!

Hi! I'm not sure exactly what breed yet... I've read that Red Stars are good layers and tolerant to extreme temps like we have here in TX.... any recommendations?

Howdy,

I've never owned chickens of my own, but have been taking care of a friend's when he is out of town and decided I would like a few of my own.

Started building a coop today! Using a wooden shipping crate as the basic box, will post pics when I get some.

We live in city limits and are allowed up to 10 hens, but will probably just start out with 4 or 5.

Love this site already, have learned a ton!
welcome I'm from the great state as well. have you decided what breeds ypur getting?

Mainly eggs... we eat several a day. I wouldn't mind raising them for meat also but I think my wife is going to turn them into pets so meat probably won't be an option.
