Hello from Texas

Your conversion from annoyed by to enthralled with chickens was lovely.

Many people get them for eggs, then realize there is so much more to enjoy. If I say I'm going to my happy place, it means I am going to sit outside and watch my chickens, ducks and geese wandering around the yard (my apologies to the goats and sheep outside, whom I also adore but are often less happiness-inducing) and begging me for treats.

Welcome to the group! It looks like you will be a great addition!!

Hello and welcome to BYC! :frow Glad you joined.
That is a very cool pallet coop. It's coming along beautifully. Nice exterior design! Any pictures of the inside?
Thank you! I’ll add more pictures to the post. The inside is very unfinished. I filled it with gravel half way up the railroad ties, and will add sand to top it off soon. I also installed 4 nesting boxes, and may install more when the young ones start laying. The boxes are now enclosed with a hinged cover for egg access.

I really like it! You should be proud of that work.
May I suggest that you use 1/2" hardware cloth to cover all your openings? What you currently have installed will not stop smaller predators from gaining access to the coop. I purchased my 1/2" HC on Amazon. They have the best prices, it is galvanized after welding, 19 gauge cloth which is the same as what I can get locally only less expensive.
How many layers do you expect to house? You only need 1 nest box for every 4-5 birds. I have 10 laying hens that used 2 nest boxes without issue in their old coop.

Welcome to BYC!! We're glad to have you join us!! :welcome:frow If you ever have any questions this is the place to be, there's always somebody more than happy to help. And 'chicken math' gets to us all. :D:gig
Thank you! Chicken math did get me! I just realized I said 22 chickens in the big coop, but there will be 24, or 4, depending on who’s counting :p
