Why do you have one in a tote?

When I first got the chicks home my ducklings where still inside and they were very curious of the new peeping thing. The brooders sat next to each other so I was worried they might hurt the chicks just trying to be curious. So the chicks spent a day in a clear plastic tote, then I hardware clothed the crate and everyone could see but not touch. I will say I'm pretty sure my chicks taught my ducklings how to fly and it made my life very comical.
