Welcome to BYC!!Hi there! My name is Courtney and I am from the prairie province of Saskatchewan Canada! It’s nice to meet everyone!
(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
To chickens yes, but not to birds!we got our first chickens and peafowl almost two months ago now. I’ve had parrots and pigeons for the last 8 years.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
We have 4 hens, 10 chicks, 4 peafowl and 4 call ducks!
(3) What breeds do you have?
Lavender Orpingtons, Barnevelders, Lakenvelder, Silkies, Indian Blue Peafowl and Call ducks.
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
Interacting with them and seeing what antics they get up to!
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
We own a small farm so everything associated with the lifestyle. Horseback riding, writing, crafting and drawing are some bonus hobbies of mine.
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
Here on the farm it’s myself and my best friend of 10+ years. My mom, dad and younger sister and brother all live in the nearby city where I also go into the office for work twice weekly. We have a lot of furry, scaley and feathery friends who live with us, including our Malamute cross Remi, two Pygmy goats, two horses, three cats - Creature, Billy and Michael, many snakes, pigeons, two rats, a cockatiel and two budgies, a frog, a skink and two fish tanks!
(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?
This has been my go to spot for any questions relating to our birds and I thought it was time to join and get involved.
