Hello from the Chesapeake

Welcome to BYC!

You will find a lot of good information here. Keep on asking questions and you will get many good answers.

You may also want to read the FAQ below.

I'm bringing my coop together today on my day off and I may go take a look at a few 10 month old girls, a Lavender Orpington, Speckled Sussex, Silver Laced Wyandotte (a favorite!), and a Black Australorp. I only want to start with 2 or three max. I'll let you know how it goes!
Welcome to BYC, Cynthia! Glad you decided to join our flock. You are getting some really good dual purpose breeds. Black Australorps are my favorite standard breed. Not only are they excellent layers, but they are calm and gentle. My children, and now my granddaughter (pictured in my avatar), made lap pets of ours. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. Good luck in getting your flock.

Thanks Michael. I decided to skip getting the Australorp (for now) and start small with the SLW and Speckled Sussex. It's been a week and they're settled in and spoiled. The Speckled, Liberty, is a clockwork egg layer and has potential to be a lap chicken. Justice, the SLW, laid three eggs and has now decided to simply eat like a queen and do nothing but beg for treats, poop all over the yard (good girl!), strut, and be pretty. Being held and laying eggs have not been on her schedule this week. ;)

You're welcome. I've had both breeds and have considered getting some more Speckled Sussex for my flock. My children made lap pets out of the last SS we had. :o) Good luck with your flock.
